Happy Upcoming Thanksgiving…
Fall so quickly segues from cooler weather into the start of the Holidays, doesn’t it? I had a great time this recently seeing fall foliage on the east coast starting at The Green Mill – the oldest jazz club in Chicago. Dave Jemilo has a terrific club there – very cool vibe with warm atmosphere. Ok, I’ve never performed below a naked female sculpture before (yep!), but it was fun, and of course the people of Chicago are wonderful. We did a benefit for The Chicago Lighthouse for People Who are Blind or Visually Impaired. I stayed after with my friend Leslie who is a jazz & blues radio host, and watched Patricia Barber and her trio perform which we enjoyed too. I also had time to see the Chicago Art Institute – one of my favorite art museums in the country. Mostly though I’ve been composing new music for my upcoming release that will be out in early 2014, booking shows for next year and working on my new website. The website should be up any day now……… any day…….
New performances to mark on you calendar: for those attending APAP in early Jan in NYC I’ll be doing an APAP Showcase Sunday January 12th at 4pm in the rotunda at the Steinway headquarters at 109 West 57th Street. Steinway has a beautiful historic building that they will soon move from, so it’s really a last chance to see this room – imagine the great artists who have walked through their doors! I’m very excited about Thursday, January 16th 7:30 pm at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall – 154 57th St in NYC. Carnegie Hall is a dream come true for me – or any artist. If you’ll be in NYC please come by, or tell your friends and family. It is a beautiful room, terrific acoustics in Weill Recital Hall and a big Steinway – so it should be a good time! I’ll also be at Junior Blind of America -Thursday, February 27th in a program for their students, caregivers and others with disabilities, and in San Diego I will be sponsored by the jazz radio KSDS at Saville Theater on the SDCC on Tuesday April 15th at 8pm.
Here is new interview up from my friend Joe Montague at Riveting Riffs in Canada: http://www.rivetingriffs.com/lisa_hilton%202013.html
A lovely new interview in Italian by author Sylvia Cinzia Turren has appeared in her recently published book, Viaggi nell’armonia delle note (Atti Poetici, 2013), on music and music therapy. She interviewed me a while ago about my work with students who are visually impaired: http://www.attipoetici.eu/
Wishing you and your family and friends a wonderful Thanksgiving. I’ll be cooking with my family – this year we will walk on the beach and then are trying a vegetarian meal for a change.
