I've always been attracted to the energy of Manhattan, even naming my last CD after the city, so for this release I traveled to the home of some of the greatest jazz musicians in the world. Recording always feels a bit like magic, and the two days playing with Christian McBride, Lewis Nash, Jeremy Pelt and Steve Wilson created such terrific music and great memories that I named this project after an incredible studio experience. As producer and player, this was my "dream team". As a composer I am inspired by our beloved Great American songwriters, whose melodies we now call Standards, and by our great Classic Jazz composers, writing in the 50's in America, and creating a new form of music with their rythms, harmonies, and improvisation. Life today is a mixture of experiences though, and I blend everything from rock to Rachmaninoff when I compose to create jazz for today. My goal musically is never to impress; it is to express this life we share - the beauty, energy, joy and yearning that we encounter wherever we are. I savor and value a beautiful melody or a well-played instrument that can soothe our lives each time we listen. Enjoy. Lisa Hilton |
